Most watches today follow conventions set more than a century ago — and Northern Watches is challenging that. “Big brand watches have become predictable,” says the design team. “They focus more on not rocking the boat than on creating something truly fresh.”

The brand’s philosophy stems from a simple question:

Why do most watches show only half the day?

Thousands of years ago, humans divided daytime into 12 hours — a choice that made sense in a world without artificial light. Later, the Egyptians introduced another 12 hours for the night, giving rise to the 24-hour concept we use today. Yet, most modern watches still cling to the 12-hour display, an outdated convention that Northern Watches aims to modernize.
